Live Workshops

I believe one of the best investments you can make in your photographic journey is education. After nearly forty years as a photographer, I’ve gained a great deal of experience, and I truly enjoy sharing it. But experience alone doesn’t always make someone a good teacher. In addition to decades behind the camera, I spent more than fifteen years working in education for a large healthcare company, which gave me a strong understanding of what effective teaching looks like. In my workshops, I focus not only on how to do things, but also on why. Understanding the why behind photographic techniques gives you the tools to solve problems long after the workshop ends.

Most of these workshops area available in both group and individual sessions.
To schedule a session, please see the more details links for each course to learn how to schedule a session.

Understanding Studio Flash

Come spend an afternoon with me diving into the creative possibilities of studio strobes and light modifiers for still photography. This hands-on workshop will show you how to shape light with confidence, explore the differences between flash and continuous lighting, and understand why manual control often gives you better results than TTL in the studio setting. Bring your curiosity and leave with practical skills you can use right away.

As an option for those interested, we can also go over using flash outdoors in sunlight as a fill or the main light. This is a case where sometimes TTL can offer a quicker solution than manual, but we will go over both options.

This workshop is available in a group format as well as one-on-one private session. Hit the below link for more details and to register.

Finding the Light

In this two-hour workshop, we will go out to the streets of the city center here in Valencia. We will go searching for the beautiful available light that occurs on the streets and alleys here. You will learn how to lean into backlghting and make use of reflected light from walls and windows for a “main light”. You’ll discover you don’t need to bring a reflector or fill light to get great images, even in the middle of the day.

In this four-day, hands-on portrait photography workshop, we’ll explore a variety of styles such as Street Style, Headshots, and Compositional Portraiture while shooting in diverse locations around the city, including a full day in a professional studio. This workshop is all about helping you grow as a portrait photographer, both technically and creatively. We’ll cover how to find and use great natural light, and just as importantly, how to work with challenging lighting situations.

The Headshot – From Start to Finish

Creating a connection to your subject is the key to creating an engaging and attractive image. This is as important, if not more so, than the technical aspects of lighting and camera settings. Tethered shooting during a session is one of the best tools the  headshot photographer has at their disposal. Having the subject able to view the images as they’re captured brings them into the process. You and the client end up working together as a team to create that “best shot”.
