Karina at the Exit

After an early afternoon shoot on the Metro, we took to the streets at dusk to capture some images of this lovely dress among the Christmas lights of the city. The last set we shot was in front of the carousel while it was in motion. Karina did an amazing job holding still in order for me to capture the spin of the ride behind her. Thanks to her husband, Alex, for assisting and for getting a coat back on her as so as we would stop shooting (it was cold that evening!).
Thanks to all involved for making this happen!

Photo AAR: This shot was tricky and compounded by being spur of the moment. I decided to try to catch Karina in the dress with the carousel behind her the moment we saw it, but there were challenges. This was a Friday night and five days before Christmas, so there were lots (and lots) of people. It was also cold outside, and I had to quickly experiment to determine a good shutter speed to get the motion I wanted in the background. In the end I used a very slow 1/4 of a second exposure to get the look I wanted. If it wasn’t for Karina’s effort at standing still and my A7rIV’s in-camera stabilization, I don’t think I could have captured this handheld and have it turn out like it did. Final image is processed in Adobe Camera Raw.
