The wonderful talent that is Karina helping me create some magic on the streets of Valencia Monday evening. There’s a lot that went into this one to make it so that very little post work was done except for some minor retouching.

The roses Karina is holding are synthetic, black roses, to which Carmen added some deeper red spray point to create the final result.
The scene was lit using a Fresnel spot on a Godox AD300pro flash placed above and to camera right with an orange filter positioned inside. This creates two effects. One, the powerful flash makes the background go darker and two, by correcting the orange cast from the flash it makes the background areas go blue, adding to the “nighttime” look.

“Black Magic” is a variety of black roses which these synthetic ones resemble (after Carmen painted them). Despite the typical “dark” symbolism one might associate with black flowers in general, black roses are strongly linked to change, new beginnings, rebirth, and renewal.
